The proof of a man’s greatness is his care for others (Luke 9:48 NLT).
Every great leader knows that investing in people involves a great part of their mission. People literally are a central part of their lives. But every leader is limited by time, resources, so investing in the right people is crucial.
Regardless of how big your heart is for others,
it is vital that you remain a faithful steward of your time and resources. So if you plan to invest in someone or a small group, making smart choices on who you will mentor is important. Dr. Mike Murdock in his book, “7 Keys to a 1000 Times More,” talks about the Four Kinds Of Protegés,
I believe this wisdom will add value to your life.
The Passive Protegé
They observe, they learn but they only reach out when it is convenient for them. They expect the mentor to be more committed to their success then they are willing to commit themselves. They will read a book providing the mentor buys it and hand delivers it to them. They believe the mentor’s pursuit of them is proof of his love for them. The passive protegé never grows and becomes embittered by towards his mentor.
The Parasite Protegé
They want what the mentor has without doing what the mentor did to get. They want your influence but despise your correction. They stay close to the network of relationships the mentor has. They love to name drop, they will use your name to advance their agenda. They want to profit from the relationship without the cost of discipleship. They want what the mentor has earned not what he has learned. They ride on the reputation or favor of the mentor ahead of their season of preparation, required.
The Productive Protegé
They recognize the gift and achievement of the mentor. They possessive a servant’s hearts and a spirit of honor. They refuse to make any major decision without the counsel and feedback from their mentor. They consider their mentor to be a gift from God, to help them advance and accelerate in their calling. The productive mentor genuinely loves his mentor and desire to feel his heart. As the Apostle Paul wrote, ” But we beseech you, brethren, to know them that labor among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; 13 and to esteem them exceeding highly in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among yourselves.” 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13(ASV).
The Prodigal Protegé
They move towards the crowds, the popularity. They value the stage more than they do their reputation. They are “hireling,” it is nothing for them to leave their mentor for a higher salary, or a bigger stage. They love the comparison game and don’t take to easily when corrected. They think they can do a better job than their mentor, and yet lack fruit in the little they’ve been already assigned to care and grow. They love playing the political game, always, more concerned over what the people are saying that what their mentor said. Just as the prodigal son left the father for his own pleasure, so it is with the prodigal protegé.
LOYALTY, ACTUALLY MEANS SOMETHING
I read a saying one day that said, “Honesty is an expensive gift, don’t expect it from cheap people.”
Well, the same can be said about loyalty, don’t expect it for Christmas from unscrupulous people.
If you did not get it yet let me say it again,
Your Destiny is Connected to Your Loyalty.
WHO you are -define WHAT you become.
So what is loyalty?
Loyalty is a radicule adherence to a principle, person or organization.
One of the truest tests of loyalty is revealed in the company a person keeps.
As Jay Z also once said,
“don’t tell me what they said about me, tell me why they were so comfortable to say it to you?”
Don’t be disturbed when so-called “friends, business associates, ministry associates” expect you to trust them while you are still couching up the water from the last time they let you drown.
Remember, “True Friends Have The Same Enemies.” (Mike Murdock.)
My advice to you, if a person is full of self, it means they are empty of substance.
Invest in loyal people!
NEVER GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAM
As frustrating and confusing as your particular setback may be at the moment, as frightening or overwhelming the situation is or have been. Giving up on your dream, business, marriage or anything another thing for that matter is not a good idea.
what it takes to change your situation is much less
of an ordeal than you may think. The issues and problems you think and feel to be mountains and giants are most likely only pebbles and dwarfs.
Some else is fighting a greater battle than you right now.
As for your dream, it is worth fighting for, and investing whatever it takes on your part to make it what it can be, and you will be relieved when you gradually realize,
You will get what you want when you know what to do!
